Vortrag von Martin Nedbal: Prague vs. Salzburg: Patriotism, Isolationism, and Bohemian Mozart Monuments
23. Mai 2023 I 18 Uhr
Universität Bayreuth GWI, S120
Lecture by Martin Nedbal, Ph.D. (Associate Professor of Musicology, University of Kansas) at the Colloquium (Methods of Analysis of Music and Performance).
Nineteenth-century debates about and establishment of monuments dedicated to the memory of Mozart in Prague were highly political. Whereas in the 1830s, the debates about a Prague Mozart foundation (Mozart'sche Stiftung) reflected a patriotic competition with Salzburg, late nineteenth-century discourse about Bertramka, the villa where Mozart allegedly stayed in 1787 and 1791, was dominated by increasing tensions and ideological orientation of Prague's Czech and German communities.
